UiTM student charged with attempting to support IS

A marine engineering student has been charged with attempting to support the Islamic State terrorist organisation last year.

The 23-year-old Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) student was accused at the Sepang Sessions Court today of attempting to fly to Istanbul via Turkish Airlines in order to support the IS, the New Straits Times reported.

He was arrested at the KLIA departure hall on Dec 28. No plea was recorded.

Over 50 people have been arrested for links to the terror group over the course of the past year and recently, a news report revealed that a shop in Bangi which sold IS and Taliban-themed merchandise saw a ‘high demand’ for such items.
