Two secondary school students were reportedly quarantined yesterday after touching mercury in their school.
Bernama reports that the Form Five students had come into contact with the chemical when a thermometer in their school science laboratory fell and shattered at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pokok Sena, near Kepala Batas, Penang.
They were reportedly sent to the Kepala Batas hospital.
Hazardous Materials Unit operations commander Zulkhuari Abdul Rahman told the news agency that a laboratory assistant noticed the spilled mercury and contacted authorities.
Both the lab and classrooms were reportedly vacated to allow clean up work.
