Two Malaysians on board Emirates flight safe, says airline

The two Malaysians who were on board the Emirates plane that crash landed at the Dubai International Airport on Wednesday are safe. 

In a Facebook post yesterday, the airline confirmed that there were no fatalities in the incident where the Boeing 777 aircraft skidded on a runway and burst into flames.

There were 282 passengers and 18 crew on board Flight EK521 which departed  at 10.19am from the Trivandrum International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram, India, heading for Dubai.

“We can confirm that there are no fatalities among our passengers and crew. All passengers and crew are accounted for and safe,” the airline said.

Apart from the two Malaysians, other passengers were from India (226); United Kingdom (24); United Arab Emirates (11); United States and Saudi Arabia (six respectively); Turkey (five); Ireland (four); two each from Australia, Brazil, Germany, and Thailand; and one each from Croatia, Egypt, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Lebanon, Philippines, South Africa, Switzerland and Tunisia.

The cause of the incident remains unclear.
