Two Malaysian students successfully conquer Mt. Everest

While a Malaysian student is making headlines for her epic shopping spree, two Malaysian students found better use of their time.

According to a news report by Bernama, two Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) students successfully conquered the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, at 11.45am on Monday.

The university’s vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Wahid Omar told Bernama that the two climbers – 22-year-old Mohd Farul Aidib Mahamad Yusoff, a second year student, and 28-year-old Azim Afif Ishak, a UTM graduate – started their climb from Tibet.

“They went to Tibet in April, and over there, they received the services of a Sherpa to guide them,” said Prof Wahid.

“They started the climb from Tibet, and began the ascent to the summit from Camp 3, at 11.45pm yesterday (Sunday).”

He also added that they were expected to return by early next month.
