Two Indonesian boats caught fishing illegally in Malaysian waters

Malaysian authorities have detained nine crew from two Indonesian boats found fishing illegally in Malaysian waters yesterday.

The boats were reportedly seen about 42 nautical miles south west of Pulau Kendi. The Penang Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) spotted them around 4.50pm.

“All the fishermen, aged between 16 and 41, from Pangkalan Brandan, Medan, were detained for further investigations. We also seized fishing equipment and 200kg of catch,” MMEA Maritime 2 District director Kamaruszaman Abu Hassan told Bernama.

So far, 15 Indonesian boats have been caught encroaching Malaysian waters this year, the report states.
