Two-hour parking limit for KL city centre to begin this month

This is important news, if you work or have frequent business in Kuala Lumpur’s city centre.

If you plan to drive into the city’s central business district (CBD) — which includes areas like Bukit Bintang, KLCC, Ampang — you will have to remember a brand new time limit for parking.

Starting July 16, all vehicles in the CBD would be allowed just two hours in metered parking lots. The metre would not allow a top up after the time limit is up.

In a news report by The Star Online’s Bavani M., Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was quoted as saying that this move was to reduce instances of motorists hogging parking spots for long hours.

“We also want to encourage people to take the public transport when they come into the city as well as encourage people to park at designated parking centres and walk,’’ he was quoted further.

“We (will) also increase the parking fee to RM2 for the first hour and RM3 for the second hour. Anyone who surpasses the two hour limit will find your cars clamped or towed away; in fact we won’t even summon you,’’ he reportedly said.

The ruling will begin with the CDB, while a feasibility study is being conducted on implementation of the plan in Brickfields, the report said.

Areas such as Bangsar, Kepong, Hartamas will not be affected by the two-hour rule for now.
