Two members of the ‘Geng Sasi’ suspected of a spate of robberies and acts of extortion in the Sri Muda area of Seksyen 25 Shah Alam over the past few months were apprehended by police less than 12 hours after their latest mugging.
The two suspects, aged 22 and 23, were arrested at around 12.30pm yesterday after local police received a report on a robbery committed by the two of them at 3.30am that morning.
Seized during the arrests were a parang believed to have been used by the suspects on their robberies, and a mobile phone believed to be the property of one of their victims.
The suspects, believed to also belong to the Geng 18 illegal secret society, were also running an extortion racket on local businesses, reports Harian Metro‘s Ekhwan Haque Fazlul Haque.
Victims of the duo have been subjected to bodily harm if they refused to pony up protection money.
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azisman Alias said his officers went on a dragnet for the suspects following a report of a man in his 30s becoming the pair’s latest mugging victim.
The suspects are known to have two more associates who are still at large, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend them.
“Investigations have revealed that the two suspects apprehended are also members of the Geng 18 secret society, based on tattoos located on their left forearms,” Azisman said.
He also urged people in the Sri Muda area, especially traders and business owners, to come forward with any information on extortion rackets or acts of intimidation.
