Two dogs attacked three people in Seremban; owner arrested

Police have apprehended the owner of two dogs that attacked three people in Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan yesterday.

Nilai OCPD Supt Abdullah Roning said the owner was being investigated under Section 289 of the Penal Code for negligence for animals under one’s possession. The law provides for a jail term of up to six months or a fine of up to RM2,000.

The Star Online reports that the owner was detained yesterday evening when he arrived at the police station to lodge a report over the incident.

The dogs, believed to be American bulldogs, had attacked an Indonesian maid outside her employer’s home after she had returned from buying nasi lemak from a nearby stall. The maid, in her 50s, known as Ruhimah, suffered head injuries and a broken arm from the attack.

Stall owner Hoosni Anwar Hamid, 44, witnessed the attack and attempted to run the dogs over with his car, causing them to run away. However, the dogs returned to attack Hoosni when he went back to his stall. Hoosni sustained bites on his mouth and limbs.

A police officer, Lance Corporal Mohd Naser Sulaiman, from the Lenggeng police station who happened to be passing by as the attacks were happening tried to stop the dogs, and was himself bitten on the ankle.

Lance Corporal Naser then rushed back to the police station and returned with a shotgun. He shot the two dogs, which were still lurking in the area.

It is understood that the dogs were usually kept within the premises of a chilli farm by its owner. The owner allegedly has 10 dogs on his farm.
