As Malaysia mourns for the loss of 239 lives onboard Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, organizers of the Twin Towers @ Live event and the Laureus World Sports Awards have decided to cancel and tone down their plans, respectively.
Petronas and other sponsors of the Twin Towers @ Live concert, scheduled to take place over two days beginning March 28, along with promoter Live @ Work Sdn Bhd have decided to cancel the event.
The concert, which was supposed to have taken place at the KLCC Twin Towers, would have featured international headline acts such as Christina Aguilera, Craig David and South Korean superstar Rain.
A statement from Petronas said: “It is truly a tragedy and we are deeply saddened about the crew and passengers of flight #MH370.
“As the sponsor of Twin Towers Alive 2014, we have concluded with event organizer Live At Work Sdn Bhd and other fellow sponsors to cancel TTA 2014 as a sign of respect to the families & next-of-kin of the crew and passengers of flight MH370.
Our deepest condolence to them. We will honor our obligation to ensure all related parties impacted by this cancellation be treated fairly.”
The Laureus World Sports Awards, taking place tomorrow evening at Istana Budaya, will go on, but it will be a more subdued programme than originally conceived.
Edwin Moses, Laureus World Sports Academy chairman said in a statement that the event would feature a “reduced programme of activity in Kuala Lumpur.”
He added, “Everyone in the Laureus World Sports Academy has been upset by this terrible tragedy. With the Laureus World Sports Awards in Kuala Lumpur this year, we feel particularly close to the Malaysian people at this time which makes what has happened even more personal and distressing. We feel the appropriate action at this time is to scale down some of our activities over the next two days.”
“We dedicate the Laureus All Stars Unity Cup to the families and loved ones of the victims of MH370.”
