A 15-year-old suspect has been taken into custody after his 12-year-old girlfriend gave birth to a baby boy, and hid the newborn in a cabinet drawer.
The boy was detained yesterday after the girl identified him as the father.
Police report that the baby was delivered at the wooden stilt home of the girl’s adoptive parents in Sibu. The girl did not inform her guardians of the pregnancy, nor the birth, and hid the baby shortly thereafter in a storeroom cabinet.
At 4:00pm the next day, her 16-year-old adoptive sister heard the newborn’s cries, and went to investigate the sounds. She discovered a baby, wrapped in towels, in a drawer.
The baby’s alleged father is said to be from the same village, and is currently being investigated for rape.
