Two men who had been camping at a forest in Mersing, Johor ahead of a fishing trip, died after a tree fell on their tent in the early hours of Sunday.
The New Straits Times reports that Rizal Ismail, 33, and Hanafi Abd Rahman, 42, had been staying over at Hutan Taman Bahtera, Jemaluang when the tree crashed on them. Both had reportedly died from severe head injuries and massive bleeding.
The daily quoted Mersing district police chief Deputy Superintendant M. Kumar as saying that the men had camped at the spot — 4km from the entrance of the the forest — with two others.
“The tree fell on the tent occupied by the two victims. They were rushed to a clinic but were pronounced dead later,” Kumar told the NST.
