Traffic cop arrests school bus driver, then drives kids to school himself

Think of the children!

A bus full of primary school students got held up during a routine inspection by traffic police in Sentul yesterday, during which its driver was arrested for not owning a valid license and other offences.

Upon discovering that the students riding in the bus, all aged between seven and nine years old, were in tears because they would miss their term examsdue to the arrest, Sergeant Ruhaizad Abd Latip, who was involved in the inspection, took it upon himself to personally deliver the kids to school in his squad car.

“We were inspecting other vehicles ferrying students in the area at the time of the arrest. The driver in question was transporting seven students on their way to an afternoon session,” KL trafic police chief ACP Mohd Nazri Hussain told Harian Metro‘s Kalidevi Mogan Kumarappa.

The inspection was part of the KL Traffic Enforcement Division’s Ops Roda initiative, and was aiming to nab secondary school students who ride motorcycles to school without licenses or safety helmets.

Instead, the operation uncovered the errant bus driver, who apart from not holding a valid driver’s license, was also driving a 35-year old bus no longer eligible for use on the road, and had a prior conviction over a fatal traffic accident.

Seems like Sergeant Ruhaizad stepped up and became the driver these kids wanted and deserved. Tabik!
