Tourist catches Malacca hotel worker watching child porn at the front desk

A British tourist had more than just a good holiday: he might just have unintenionally exposed a suspected paedophile during his stay in Malacca.

According to a report by The Star Online, the tourist and his wife and son checked into a budget hotel at Bandar Hilir last weekend and was shocked to see the front desk worker allegedly watching child pornography online.

The 24-year-old man, who is reportedly an academian, told the news portal that in one of the videos, a baby boy can be seen sexually assaulted by an elderly man.

The tourist then lodged a police report at Melaka Tengah police headquarters.

The news portal reported that the police have picked up the 31-year-old hotel worker, a Bangladeshi national, for questioning.

State Private Sector Affairs, Human Resources and NGO Affairs committee chairman Datuk M.S. Mahadevan told The Star Online that he would set up a meeting with the Bangladeshi’s employer and move to cancel his working permit once investigations are complete.

“I was told this was not the first time the Bangladeshi watched child pornography. His fetish could pose risk to children staying at the hotel,” he was quoted as saying.

Mahadevan added that incidents like these could smear the reputation of the local tourism industry.
