AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes recently welcomed two former Malaysia Airlines flight attendants to AirAsia X – by taking a playful jab at the national airline.
Known for his down-to-earth humour, the 52-year-old uploaded a one-and-a-half minute video on his Facebook page on Wednesday, where he was seen introducing the two new flight attendants at the AirAsia academy.
“Here is a funny clip. At the academy yesterday visiting new crew. Saw some ex MAS crew who still had the famous MAS bun so excited to transform them to AirAsia crew on the spot. Hahahaha,” he wrote in the post.
In the video, he was seen joking with the crowd as he asked the flight attendants to “let their hair down”.
“We have two MAS crew who still look like MAS crew. So we are going to let their hair down today,” he said in the clip, after which the two flight attendants proceed to undo the trademark MAS hairbuns in front of the cheering crowd.
As the two women begin to remove one hairpin after another, Tony stepped forward and held one pin in his hand and said: “It’s very painful to be a MAS crew!”
After counting the pins removed from their hair, Tony joked that “its cheaper to work in AirAsia as you don’t have to have pins”, prompting a round of laughter from the crowd.
As the women finally let their hair down, the crowd gave a loud cheer as Tony proudly said: “They are officially AirAsia X crew!”
The video has been viewed more than 343,000 times and shared by more than 1,600 people.
