News has emerged that a two-year-old who fell unconscious after choking on a piece of bread while at her babysitter’s house, succumbed to her injuries late last week, and died in a Kuala Lumpur-area hospital.
She had been admitted four days before her death on Thursday, after falling unconscious at her babysitter’s house as she was eating breakfast.

Having been brought to Selayang Hospital, medical officials began the resuscitation process, at which point, they discovered a piece of bread lodged inside the tot. A post-mortem carried out over the weekend reveled that she died of hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE), along with multiple organ failure. HIE usually indicates that the victim’s brain was starved of oxygen and blood for a prolonged period of time.

Her death is now being investigated under the Child Act 2001.
Childminder regulations have been a hot topic over the last year, after several stories of infant death and abuse while under the care of individuals paid to babysit hit the headlines.
