A four-year-old boy was killed when he was ran over by an SUV he was left in on Tuesday.
According to a The Star Online report, the boy, Chu Jie Lie, and his six-year-old sister were left in the vehicle by their mother in the compound of their house in Balik Pulau at 8.30pm.
Jie Lie was believed to have climbed over to the driver’s seat and shifted the automatic gear into reverse.
The boy panicked when he realised the vehicle was reversing and jumped out. He was reportedly crushed by the moving vehicle.
“He must have panicked when he realised that the car was moving, and opened the door to jump out of the car, which resulted in him being run over,” OCPD Supt Lai Fah Hin told the news portal.
Supt Lai added that family members found the boy pinned under the wheel of the vehicle and his mother reportedly rushed the boy to the hospital.
The boy later died in the hospital due to head injuries.
