An animal keeper was mauled to death at a resort in Alor Gajah, Malacca when he entered the cage of tiger to feed it.
Bernama reports that the tiger had inexplicably attacked the 34-year-old man, an Indonesian, who had cared for the animal over the past eight years.
The man was reportedly rushed to the Tampin Hospital after the 2pm attack but died soon after.
State Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director, Noorzakiahanum Mohd Noh was quoted as saying that the department was trying to determine a cause for the animal’s behaviour.
The resort’s management called the incident ‘extremely rare’.
“This is an extremely rare incident and the victim’s family has been notified. The other keepers have not yet determined the cause of the attack,” it said.
