Three youth arrested in connection with assault on ambulance driver Monday morning

Police report that they have arrested three youth in connection with an incident that saw both an ambulance driver, and attending nurse, assaulted after they asked motorcycle riding youth to give-way while they were transporting a patient.

One of the suspects is still a student, while the other two others are currently employed.

The trio range from 17 to 20-years-old, and will be held in remand until December 22 while police investigate. They are still searching for additional suspects in the incident.

Early Monday morning, along the North-South Expressway, near the Taiping Utara toll plaza, the 53-year-old driver was assaulted after he asked the group of mat rempit (best described as members of a bike gang, but oh so much more to Malaysians) to heed his request via speaker to give way for the ambulance. The group was reportedly blocking the road off in order to race, circa 1:30am.

Instead of obeying orders, they instead became incensed, and used their bikes to block the ambulance’s passage. The driver was then dragged from the vehicle by four to six teenagers, who then punched him. He required stitches on his head after the attack.

The nurse, who was attending to the patient in the vehicle, attempted to break up the fight, but was subsequently pushed to the ground by the mob.
