A fun family outing turned into horror when a girl fell from a shopping mall escalator on Sunday.
According to a report by The New Straits Times, the incident happened at the Kompleks Bukit Jambul in George Town at around 6.30pm.
The three-year-old girl is believed to have been sitting on her father’s shoulders prior to the incident.
The father reportedly suddenly tilted his head, causing the girl to fall from a height of 3 metres.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told the daily that the girl suffered a cracked skull and massive internal bleeding, and is currently in critical condition at the Penang Hospital.
A video of the incident, reportedly captured by the mall’s CCTV, made its way online.
However, viewer’s discretion is advised due to the nature of the video:
Meanwhile, Free Malaysia Today reports that the girl’s father is currently being investigated under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, for exposing his child to physical harm.
Upon conviction, the man may be jailed for 10 years, or fined RM10,000, or both.
