Three people, including a Datuk, shot dead on Penang expressway

It was a dramatic day on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in George Town when three people, one of them said to be a Datuk, was killed in a shooting on Thursday night.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told The Star Online that in the 7.30pm incident, the three victims were in their cars when they were shot at.

ACP Mior added that three other people were injured in the shooting.

A fourth victim, according to ACP Mior, was seriously injured when she was shot and she is said to be receiving treatment at the Penang Hospital.

One of the victims, a cameraman for Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) named Muhamad Amirul Amin Amir, was reportedly hit in the chest by a stray bullet when he passed by the area on his motorcycle.

Muhamad Amirul told the news portal that he was heading to the Pesta Pulau Pinang with his friend when the shooting reportedly took place.

Meanwhile, in a seperate The Star Online report, Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainol Samah said the police have arrested the suspect who fired the shots.

ACP Zainol told the news portal that the suspect was the personal bodyguard of the Datuk, identified as one Ong Teik Kwong, 32.

According to ACP Zainol, the bodyguard was travelling with Ong in the car.

“Another passenger in the car tried to escape on foot, but the suspect continued firing shots at him,” he was quoted as saying.
