Three friends were attacked by armed muggers while their car was broken down by the roadside in Ara Damansara early yesterday morning, leaving one of them severely beaten.
One of the victims, 25-year old Fiqa Liyana Chong, told The Star Online‘s Nicholas Cheng that the car they were travelling in broke down after leaving a nearby shopping mall, where the three had had supper.
While she stayed in the car, her two friends, aged 28 and 30, stepped out to the roadside as they waited for a tow truck to arrive.
At around 3am, they were ambushed by four men wearing motorcycle helmets and brandishing taser guns and motorcycle locks, who demanded they hand over their money and valuables.
“It all happened very fast. We emptied our pockets and gave them our phones and wallets.
“I managed to hide my phone under the car seat,” Chong said. She had to run out of the car when one of the muggers reached in to harm her.
According to CHong, one of the victims tried to flag down several cars passing by the scene for help, but none stopped; instead they only slowed down to look, and drove away.
One of the victims beaten by a motorcycle lock in the robbery required 17 stitches, she added.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Assistant Commissioner Azmi Abu Kassim confirmed the incident, saying that the police were now trying to identify the suspects.
