Three injured, service disrupted after passenger trains collide near Batang Kali

Three people sustained minor injuries and services on one route has been cancelled following a collision between a KTM passenger train and a KTM ETS high-speed train yesterday. 

The 13-coach passenger train had been en route to Johor Bahru from Butterworth, while the ETS train was travelling from KL to Ipoh. 

According to the New Straits Times, the accident happened when one of the trains failed to stop when it was supposed to, and went over a crossing just as another train entrered the crossover point.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department deputy operations director Sani Harul was quoted in a Malaysiakini report as saying that both trains were passing through the Batang Kali station when the collision occurred around 1.45pm.

KTMB corporate communications manager Siti Badariah Wan Hanafi said in a statement yesterday that KTM commuter service between Rawang and Tanjung Malim has been cancelled.

“All ETS services will end at the Rawang train station and passengers will continue their journey on bus or otherwise,” she said.

There were reportedly 510 passengers on board both trains.
