Sangeetha, an Indian food vendor selling nasi lemak in Seri Kembangan, has become an online sensation after videos promoting her dishes went viral.
Her stall has become a popular spot for customers who line up for hours to try her delicious nasi lemak, squid sambal, chicken rendang, and quail egg sambal.
Although Sangeetha, who identifies herself as “Akka Nasi Lemak” (Nasi Lemak Sister), had established her stall in the region ten years ago, it was only recently that her stall gained prominence after KL Foodie, a food blog, posted a TikTok video reviewing her food.
The video was subsequently tweeted by @jllmisai, and as of the current time, the tweet has received over 1,560 retweets and almost 5,000 likes.
Customers have taken to Twitter and TikTok to share their experiences waiting in line for hours to taste her dishes, a report by The Vibes showed.
The news caught the attention of the Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli’s special officer, Thiban Subbramaniam, who visited Sangeetha’s stall and offered to help her legalise her business by obtaining the necessary documents.
He also instructed his team to assist Sangeetha in signing up for the People’s Income Initiative (IPR), which aims to eradicate poverty and improve income by allowing her to sell her nasi lemak via vending machines.
While several commenters expressed surprise at the lengthy wait time to get a taste of her dishes, other TikTok users shared their experience of queuing up for hours, with one user waiting for over 11 hours to visit the stall.
