Thirteen individuals, including four women, were taken in by police in connection with the shocking public murder of a man, purported to be a triad leader, at a Johor petrol station.
The entire incident gained even greater notoriety when a video of the killing made its way onto Facebook.
Over the last 48 hours, seven suspects have been detained in Singapore, two in Penang, and four others have been rounded up in Johor. They range in age between 16 and 26.
Police added that they are not finished with their investigations, and are still identifying suspects in the murder.
The victim, known only as Ah Chiu, was attacked by four men in a white BMW as he checked the air pressure on his tires. After a struggle, the victim was stabbed, later collapsing at the scene. The suspects then returned to their vehicle, and ran over Ah Chiu’s body twice before fleeing.
Yesterday, the remains of Ah Chiu were collected by his Vietnamese wife, along with his young son, at Nirvana Memorial Center in Johor.
Police are keeping security tight, and are on the look-out for retaliation from the slain leader’s gang. While the exact motives for the murder are unknown, authorities confirm it stemmed from tensions between two rival triad groups.
