That’s not my name: Beauty entrepreneur tells papers she is not ‘Muhammad’

Local cosmetics entrepreneur popularly known as Nur Sajjat has been forced to deny that her birth name is in fact Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruzzaman, after allegations surfaced in several media that a court case revealed her official, male name.

Taking to both her social media account, as well as speaking to Malay-language daily mStar, she clarified that her name was not Muhammad Sajjad, but in fact Sajat Kamaruzzaman as per her identity card. She added that “Nur” is a childhood nickname.

Sajat’s legal woes stem from failing to pay returns on GST for her cosmetics company. She was fined RM2,700 (US$645) in lieu of six weeks jail for the offenses that date back to 2015 and 2016.

However, despite Sajat’s insistence that her name was not Muhammad, Malay-language portal Utusan, continued to insist that she was named as such in courts. She has since removed her account from the platform.

Earlier this year, her sex became the topic of much speculation after she was named a person of interest by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), who were investigating rumors that she may or may not be transgender. While no one was quite sure what this meant, JAKIM officials simple said that they wanted to get to know Nur better, so they could understand “the real issues” first.

Seems like the only “real [public] issue” here is Ms Nur not paying her taxes.
