There was consternation ad anger in Beijing today as Malaysia’s ambassador to China Datuk Iskandar Sarudin declined to share information pertaining to missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which disappeared from radar screens early Saturday morning.
Family members of Chinese nationals travelling as passengers on board Flight MH370 lost their patience after Iskandar refused to divulge new information the Malaysian military had passed on to authorities in the investigation.
“#Malaysia official replies ‘it’s not the right time yet’ to question from #MH370 families if govt is hiding military data,” The Straits Times reported on Twitter hours earlier, as part of its “live” coverage of the two-hour meeting between Malaysian officials and some 400 family members of the Chinese passengers.
“Many #MH370 relatives gasped and some shouted but were yelled down by others. A representative of relatives said ‘明白’ meaning ‘understood’,” the Singapore daily tweeted in an additional post.
The meeting held in Beijing’s Metropark Lido Hotel was apparently the first since the aircraft’s disappearance five days ago.
The gathered family members reportedly requested the meeting to clarify information following conflicting reports on the developments of the search for the missing passenger jet, which was carrying 239 people including crewmembers.
