A 17-year-old boy died while his friend was left injured in a horrific car crash in Kepala Batas last earlier today.
The Star Online reported that the car driven by student Muhammad Syahir Hakimi Mat Zali — who did not have a licence — had skidded and rammed into a lamppost in Titi Gajah.
He reportedly died on the spot from head injuries.
The news site said his friend Muhammad Nazirul Izzat Ahmad Nozlan, also 17, survived with a fractured right hand and cuts to his head.
Muhammad Syahir’s mother, Azhana Darus, 43, was quoted as saying that her son had left the house at 11.45pm, after getting her permission to watch the Euro 2016 football match.
Kota Setar district police chief Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin told The Star Online that the teenagers, both students at Kolej Vokasional Alor Setar, were heading from Kerala Batas to Alor Setar when the accident took place.
“We believe the driver lost control of the car,” he was quoted as saying.
