After reportedly being raped since the age of 9 by her stepfather, a 15-year-old Sarawak girl gave birth to a baby and dumped the body shortly thereafter.
Years of abuse, and her secret pregnancy, only came to light after the teen was admitted to Bintulu Hospital Friday night, after delivering her baby at home, and subsequently suffering from heavy post-natal bleeding. After explaining her situation to attending doctors, the called the police.
Police report that the girl gave birth to her baby, said to be a boy, earlier that morning while at home alone in her bathroom. The teenager told authorities that the baby was alive at the time of birth, and that she had cut the infant’s umbilical cord, before wrapping him in cloth and dumping him in a dustbin.
Unable to stem her bleeding, the teen called her friend, who thought that the victim was only experiencing a heavy menstrual flow.
Investigations later showed that her 50-year-old stepfather, a foreigner, had been raping her over the last six years.
While police are currently searching for the suspect, officers have also been sent to the teen’s home to recover the baby’s body, and to perform a postmortem.
Depending on the outcome of the autopsy, the abused teen still faces charges for concealing her pregnancy, and potentially, the murder of her baby.
