An unmarried teenage mother allegedly tried to take her own baby’s life by feeding him Dettol-laced milk after a huge argument with her boyfriend.
According to a report by the China Press, as translated by The Star Online, a relative staying with the 17-year-old girl overheard the girl screaming and yelling at her boyfriend, allegedly threatening to commit suicide and harm the baby.
The girl — who is from Segamat, Johor — then allegedly fed her two-week old newborn with the concoction.
Realising what the girl has done, the relative reportedly rushed the baby to the hospital. The baby was reported to be in a stable condition.
Segamat OCPD Supt Mohd Kamil Sukarmi told the Chinese daily that the girl has been remanded for seven days to help facilitate investigations.
“We have seized the milk bottle, and are investigating the reason behind the couple’s quarrel,” he was quoted as saying.
