Teen escapes with his life after fanny pack blocks samurai sword stab attempt

A Kota Baru teenager is lucky to be alive after nearly being impaled by a samurai sword in a Sunday morning attack.

His saving grace turned out to be his waist pouch, aka bum bag, aka fanny pack, aka the bootleg DVD seller’s satchel, which blocked a wound that would have proved fatal.

However, 18-year-old Muhammad Badriman Adnan did sustain various injuries including a broken hand, cuts to his hand, and a head wound that required 18 stitches. One for every year he’s grateful for life, amirite?!

Unfortunately, the teen’s iPhone did not survive the incident, and was sliced into two by the sword. The thieves who attacked Badriman also took RM600 (US$150) in cash that was inside the lucky bum bag.

The victim and his cousin were returning home from a restaurant when they decided to go to a friend’s house that was along the way.

The trio then went to a nearby convenience store to buy a mobile phone top-up card, and upon exiting were met by two vehicles. Eight men got out of the car, and attacked the teen with their fists, as well as the samurai sword.

While their motive is unclear, the victim’s uncle has posted that the boy’s motorcycle created a particularly loud din, and that this displeased the locals.

Well, that’s one way to solve the noise – but have you heard of just asking nicely?

Also, RIP phone.
