Teen beaten to death for stealing car rims

When a teenage motorcyclist tried to flee with two car rims allegedly stolen from a workshop in Bukit Mertajam, he realised there was no way out as the owner of the garage and several residents blocked his path.

As a result of the 5.30am scuffle early Saturday morning, the 18-year-old was beaten to death.

According to a news report by Bernama, the 42-year-old workshop owner, who has been detained to facilitate investigations, told police that there were several thefts of car rims from his workshop since last month.

“We believe the teenager’s accomplices are at large and will track them down,” said Seberang Perai Tengah police deputy chief Supt Mohd Sabri Mohamed.

He also added that the motorcycle used by the deceased in the alleged theft was reported stolen on 3 May in Butterworth.
