Teachers: We are against caning ban

As debate continues on whether or not caning of children should be criminalised, teachers have come out to voice their disagreement with such a proposal.

The Congress of Teachers Unions in the Education Service (KKGDPP) hopes that Malaysia’s cultural and religious perspectives are taken into consideration before tabling the new proposed Child Act, Bernama reports.

“We feel that in Malaysia, we combine culture and religion in bringing up children and I see many parties do not support the act which will target parents. Even in schools, there are standard operating procedures before punishing students and not abusing them,” its president Mohamed Sabri Mohd Arsad was quoted as saying.
