Tanker accident smears 2km stretch of Seremban road with palm oil

You could probably fry a whole lot of eggs on that stretch at around noontime.

A tanker lorry carrying a cargo of palm oil lost control and overturned at Kilometre 10 of the Seremban – Kuala Klawang road yesterday afternoon, spilling tons of palm oil across a 2km stretch of road.

Seremban Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Razali Abdul Khadir told Bernama his officers received an emergemcy call at 1pm, and 11 firefighters were dispatched to the scene on a fire engine from the Jelebu station.

“It is learnt that the lorry which came from Jelebu tried to avoid a car from the opposite direction but failed and the two vehicles collided, resulting in the tanker overturning,” he said.

The incident resulted in no casualties, but firefighters had difficulty extracting the lorry driver from the scene of the crash.

“The accident also resulted in the lorry driver’s head partially buried and trapped in the ground. We took about 30 to 40 minutes to rescue the victim. The overturned lorry spilled palm oil in the surrounding areas making rescue work difficult.

“The victim was saved and taken to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital (HTJS) in Seremban for further treatment,” Razali added.
