A new bicycle-sharing system is in the works for Taiping, Perak, as its municipal council (MPT) looks into ways to resolve traffic issues in the town.
According to Bernama, this system would allow members of the public to use bicycles as an alternative mode of transport to go about town.
It is also expected to give tourism in the historic town, a boost. The plan is expected to take off next year.
“MPT has identified 31 stations to implement the system, including the Kamunting railway station, the Taiping Zoo, Bukit Larut, Taman Tasik Taiping and Kamunting,” MPT president Datuk Abd Rahim Md Ariff was quoted as saying.
Bicycles may be rented out for 24 hours and payments can be made by cash, Touch & Go cards as well as credit cards.
According to the report, Ipoh authorities plan on implementing a similar system to reduce congestion on the roads.
