Suspected snatch thief, out on police bail, robs another victim

Boy, old habits really do die hard.

A suspected snatch thief allegedly snatched a woman’s handbag while he was out on bail after being charged for the same offence.

According to The New Straits Times, the suspect and an accomplice allegedly snatched a handbag belonging to a tourist from Saudi Arabia at Jalan Conlay on July 26.

When the police arrested the 21-year-old suspect during a series of raids following the incident, they found out that he was the same suspect who had reportedly been charged at court for the same offence.

The suspect — believed to be a career criminal who made his living by snatching valuables from tourists — was reportedly out on police bail after he was charged for snatching a woman’s handbag at a church in Jalan Conlay on June 10.

“Checks on his record revealed that the suspect was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court on July 4 for a snatch theft case at the Holy Rosary Church.

“He was released after posting a RM10,000 bail pending his case hearing,” KL police chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh was quoted by the daily as saying.

Datuk Amar added that the police are considering using the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA), normally used against violent and hardcore criminals, on the suspect.

“Police are working to use the POCA against this suspect,” he was further quoted as saying.
