The man believed to have shot dead four people at a chicken factory in Batu Maung, Penang yesterday, has reportedly been shot dead by police this evening.
The suspect — whom police earlier described as armed and dangerous — was reportedly involved in a gunfight with police in Air Itam.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted a congratulatory message to the federal police’s Special Task Force on Organised Crime (STAFFOC) for taking down the suspect.
“Congratulations STAFFOC for defeating the criminal after a shootout in Air Itam today. The suspect is believed to have been involved in the murder of a family of four.” he said on Twitter.
The four victims — Tan Saw Sim, 55; her son Chung Wah Tong, in his 30s; and her grandson, two-year-old Ayden Chung — were reportedly shot at close range while they were sleeping in a container home at the factory, in what is believed to have been a crime led by a family feud over money.
Also killed was Tan’s partner, Toh Hock Choon, 50, who was the factory’s operator.
The suspect, believed to be a drug addict had fled the scene in Toh’s pickup truck, which, according to a report by the New Straits Times, was late found abandoned in Bukit Mertajam.
