An Indian national has been arrested following a trio of attacks against women in Kuala Lumpur last Thursday, all on the same day.
Traveling to Gombak at the Masjid Jamek LRT, a 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by the man while on the station’s escalators. While she was able to take a quick video of the suspect, she was unable to apprehend him.
Arriving at her destination at 10:20pm, she promptly went to the police station and filed a report against the man.
The investigating officer discovered that the same suspect, a 28-year-old, was already under arrest by Selangor police for two separate attacks that day, one occurring in Petaling Jaya, and the other in Seapark.
Kuala Lumpur police will continue their investigations once Selangor police have finished theirs.
In a separate sexual assault, police are still on the hunt for a suspect who molested a 20-year-old university student in another LRT attack, this one between Pasar Seni and Masjid Jamkek last Thursday.
An unidentified man unzipped his trousers and rubbed his genitals on a woman from behind, before escaping through the crowds.
The incident took a life of its own on social media after the victim’s friend recounted her harrowing ordeal.
Police are reviewing CCTV, and working with LRT officials to ensure passenger safety after two separate incidents occurred on the same day on the light rail train network.
