A woman’s thieving days have come to an end after a year of stealing from unsuspecting worshippers at a mosque and the surau (the Malaysian term for prayer rooms) at Penang Hospital.
The 38-year-old single mother was arrested, and RM30,000 (about US$7,300) in stolen valuables seized after she was caught last night at the Al Malik Khalid Mosque in a sting by auxiliary police officers.
Her modus operandi was to enter the prayer hall while other worshippers focusing on prayers. Among the items stolen were mobile phones, handbags, purses and several pawn shop receipts.
In more surau sagas, two men have been apprehended after the firebombing of a surau on Sunday in Damansara Damai. They had hurled a Molotov cocktail into the compound, which contained 20 worshippers at the time, and fled via motorbike.
No injuries were reported. The men, both in their 20s, are being held in remand for seven days while police investigate.
