Sultan of Johor suggests replacing the Causeway with a bridge to ease traffic jams

For those who regularly commute between Singapore and Malaysia, how would you like a new link to Johor Bahru? That’s what the Sultan of Johor is proposing — a tunnel or bridge between the two borders to replace the current Causeway.

Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar expressed concern over the thousands who experience congestion on the Causeway daily, with some even giving up driving to make the trek on foot instead. Not to mention the fact that things tend to get worse on holidays and festive seasons.

He suggested for both countries to put aside their differences and think up solutions to upgrade existing structures, and urged the Malaysian Immigration Department to open up all available booths during holidays and peak hours.

Sultan Ibrahim also spoke about the need to extend the rapid transit system between Singapore and Johor Bahru to improve connectivity, and broached the idea of building another airport, possibly at Pontian, as Senai International Airport could reach full capacity in the future. — Coconuts Singapore
