Halloween: The special time of year when children dress up as their favorite cartoon or movie character, costumes like ‘seksi’ pirate are de rigeur, and that one politically incorrect friend busts out their raver-Hitler costume and makes it awkward for everyone.
Kuala Lumpur police had their work cut out for them finding just that type, only dressed this time, convincingly dressed up as a suicide bomber.
On October 28, the costumed male terrified residents at Armanee Terrace Condominium in Damansara Perdana, who did not get the memo it was Halloween, and promptly alerted police.
A fake beard, robe, keffiyeh, and cardboard circuit bomb were no match for the long-arm of the law: Channel News Asia have reported that two weeks after the fact, a man in his thirties was picked up by officers. They had appealed to local residents who may have had information by handing out a leaflet with the man in costume.
In lieu of recent times, when the general public is on edge with the threat of IS and Daesh attacks in Malaysia, the costume did not sit well with residents who spotted him in the lift.
The man is now being investigated for criminal intimidation.
Moral of the story? Yes, it’s just a costume, but try to be sensitive and remember… a sexy pirate never scared anyone.
