The song you never asked for: Malaysian artist records song for Qatar in lieu of blacklisting, can also be yoga mantra

Nobody puts Qatar in the corner. At least that’s what Johor-born singer Maizurah Hatta is trying to express in her song #StayStrongQatar.

There hasn’t been this much love for Qatar since the country financed the building of Pavilion Shopping Center. They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach; the way to win over a Malaysian is to build them a mall.

The Star sat down with the songstress, who described the tune as “very positive and uplifting. It encourages the Qatari people to keep going and to stay strong.” I guess that’s why it’s called #StayStrongQatar.

The three-minute ballad opens with:

“How do you feel when everything is changing, when all your friends turn against you for something? Keep your head high and never lose yourself, you will be fine, you don’t have to prove yourself. They can block you, they put you down, but they can’t break you.”

It’s amazing that a song that discusses the precarious diplomatic maneuvers of contentious Middle East geopolitics and strategy can also be used as the mantra for a yoga class.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain have cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of de-stabilising the region and of supporting terrorism. Doha categorically denies this.

Can’t wait for a No Scrubs vs No Pigeons rebuttal from the UAE.

We live in a wild world.
