The Customs enforcement warehouse: a place where consficated stuff goes missing like magice.
The Star Online reports that a huge consignment of confiscated cigarettes, reportedly worth around RM1 million, has mysteriously vanished from from a Customs enforcement warehouse in Larkin, Johor Baru.
According to the news portal, more than 20,000 cartons of contraband cigarettes were found missing during a random check several days ago.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh told the news portal that a police report has been lodged over the matter, and the police are currently investigating the case under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust.
ACP Sulaiman added that no arrests have been made.
Meanwhile, a source told The Star Online that the Customs authorities are currently conducting an internal probe to ascertain how the boxes were removed from a high-security area without permission.
“Usually all the seized goods are kept in the store until the court cases are over before they are taken out to be destroyed,” the source was quoted as saying.
The source also added that the department is tightening security measures to ensure that such incidents would never happen again.
