PKR President-elect and Port Dickson by-election candidate, Anwar Ibrahim spoke out to reporters gathered at his party’s operations center today against new allegations that had reportedly surfaced over the weekend relating to sodomy acts in Singapore.

“This (being accused of sodomy) has been going on for 20 years. Enough lah … please cari modal lain (look for other issues),” he said, according to The Star. “I am not affected and least bothered (by the latest allegation),” he added.

Anwar’s statement comes as a response to a Facebook post that went viral yesterday, alleging that he had recently sodomized an Indonesian student in the city state. It claimed that the student had lodged a police report, and that he was now recuperating in a local hospital.

Umno member Lokman Noor Adam had shared a forwarded WhatsApp (already sounding suspicious here, buddy) alleging that a Singaporean Malay-language outlet, BERITAmediacorp, had shared the story, yet providing no link to the original source. The Mediacorp-owned portal has categorically denied being the source of the outlandish claims.

Lokman has since posted a correction to his Facebook, stating that BERITAmediacorp never carried the story. PKR’s Communications Director Fahmi Fadzil filed a police report on the fake-news matter at 11am this morning. When asked if he would take legal action, Anwar would only tell reporters that he was focusing on his upcoming PD by-election. However, he did say that he asked friends in other states to lodge their own police reports into the matter, so that action can be taken against those who spread fake, unsubstantiated news.

Port Dickson will hold their by-election later this month, on October 13.
