Snatch thief leaves woman and step-daughter injured and in hospital after pushing bike

A Penang-area snatch thief seriously injured a woman and her step-daughter, after attacking the two when they were riding a motorbike, forcing both along with vehicle, into a drain. The suspect had his sights set on a waist pouch that the 40-year-old woman had on her.

Yesterday afternoon, the victim, who is Indonesian, and her six-year-old Malaysian step-daughter were returning home when the attack occurred. Police report that the suspect was driving a blue Yamaha 125z, and had given chase to the two before lunging and grabbing the pouch that the woman had slung over her shoulder. He then kicked her bike, sending it, and its passengers into a nearby drain to the left of the road.

While the woman sustained injuries to her face, her young step-daughter suffered head injuries, and was rushed by members of the public who witnessed the attack to a nearby hospital.

Officers are now asking for anyone with any relevant information to come forward, to help locate the suspect.
