The snailest mail: Pos Malaysia couldn’t send a million letters last year

Wait, people still send snail mail?

Despite more and more Malaysians sending Hari Raya greetings and wedding invitations via Facebook updates and WhatsApp messages, Pos Malaysia still had a huge amount of mailed correspondence it simply could not send in 2013 – because the addresses on the envelopes weren’t provided properly.

PosMel head of operations Hasnul Hadi told Bernama that the million or so pieces of unsent correspondence under his care would not only have the house or lot number missing, but also have no street or even village name, leaving Pos Malaysia no choice but to return them to sender.

“Pos Malaysia is trying to overcome the issue of improperly provided address details with an awarenes programme to inculcate providing the correct and full address on correspondence, so delivery can be improved.”

Or, you know, just use e-mail
