Next time you’re picking up a cool new flavor for your vape, beware. There are open sales of vape laced with illegal substances, according to the Royal Malaysian Police.
Police secretary Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said actions to stop such acts had been initiated.
She said one of the successful operations was last month’s arrest of seven individuals and the bust of a drug trafficking organization that processed and distributed drugs in the form of vape liquids around the Klang Valley.
“PDRM is serious in eradicating all activities involving the distribution and abuse of drugs and stern action will be imposed on any party involved,” she said in a statement last night.
Yesterday, Utusan Malaysia reported that drug-laced vape liquids were widely sold online and openly marketed to consumers.
According to the report, these sellers can be found on social sites such as Facebook, and Instagram, and each seller has a Telegram group that gathers feedback from previous buyers.
Utusan Malaysia found that the vape liquid contained cannabidiol (CBD), which is one of the psychoactive compounds found in cannabis.
CBD is distinct from THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces the “high” sensation. But according to one seller, there is a label or ‘brand’ being sold in Malaysia that has a stronger effect on the consumer, which can cause hallucinations, unlike other brands.
One shop sold a bottle of 10 milliliters of CBD for RM160 (US$25,30) however, if one chooses to buy in bulk or more than 10 bottles, it would be RM1,200.
Most vaporizers and electronic cigarettes are not made specifically for drug use. However, mixing illicit drugs into vape liquids is an increasingly popular form of substance abuse.
