Slow Internet speed in the region to continue, say report

Slow Internet since last week cause by the broken undersea cable may last as longer than we thought, if this Tech in Asia report’s estimate is right.

The website reported that slow Internet speeds in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Guam and the Phillippines – caused by one undersea cable called the AAG – will remain that way for the next 20 days.

Twenty days. Almost three weeks. More than half a month!

According to the report, it will take that long for cable operators from various nations to repair it.

“Authorities close to the matter say that it’s likely anchors from local ships dragging along the Vietnamese shoreline that caused the cable break. But that also indicates poor design of the cable,” the report said.

The AAG cable is estimated to cost USD560 million. It needed funding and cooperation of 19 telecommunications partners across the region.
