Sleeping BMW driver burns to death as car catches fire on Sprint Highway

A man — believed to have been intoxicated —parked his BMW at the Sprint highway early yesterday to take a nap in the passenger seat. He never woke up.

The New Straits Times reports that the man burned to death when the car caught fire about an hour after he stopped the vehicle at the toll booth.

According to a toll booth worker, the man had stopped the car at 4am, stepped out of the driver’s seat and got into the passenger side before he dozed off with the engine running.

The doors had been locked when the worker tried to wake him up by knocking on the car’s window.

Two toll booths were also burned in the incident,  Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul said.

The man has yet to be identified. However, according to the NST, the car’s registration plate shows an address in Taman Canning, Perak.
