The gruesome video of a Burmese national stabbing his fellow countryman with a meat cleaver in Georgetown, Penang has gone viral.
The attack occurred yesterday morning at 11:15am, in front of a Chinese temple and was recorded by onlookers, who can be heard screaming in the background. You can see it here, but warning: it’s incredibly graphic and disturbing. The victim, initial reports say, goes by Toe Toe, and he is now fighting for his life at Penang Hospital.
The incident occurred at Westlands Road, off of Anson Road. What began as an argument between the two men, who are housemates, took a turn for the grizzly. The fracas became bloody when the unnamed assailant brandished a meat cleaver, and began stabbing Toe Toe. He relented, and bizarrely started hugging the victim, before continuing to slash until police arrived at the scene.
Toe Toe’s injuries include cuts to his legs, arms, and neck, as well as having half of his left ear slashed off.
Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar told the media that the men worked as janitors at a Chinese restaurant nearby. No motive has been determined for the slashing. Upon arrest and further questioning, the assailant claimed only that Toe Toe was his housemate, and he didn’t have any problem with him.
Police report the attacker appears traumatised by the situation. No further reports on Toe Toe’s condition. May he recover swiftly, and find another housemate.
