Six workers freed from collapsed building

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department rescued six foreign workers who were trapped when the fourth floor of a building in Petaling Jaya, which is under construction, collapsed on them.

The department’s operations officer Mustakim Rimon told The Star Online that they received a call an emergency call at 9.56am on Sunday, and a total of 25 officials reached the scene four minutes later. 

“When the incident happened, the six workers were carrying out construction work on the fourth floor of the building,” Mustakim told the news site.

“One of the victims, who was severely injured, was brought out by rescue personnel, two others were saved by their friends while the other three managed to save themselves.”

Mustakim added that the last victim was rescued at 2.50pm.

The victims, comprising of an Indonesian and five Bangladeshis in their 30s, were taken to the University Malaya Medical Centre for treatment.
